Operation Blunt Two

On Wednesday 4th June 2008, Police used a mobile knife arch at Wimbledon Mainline station to check for concealed weapons.

Dan Lodge, Wimbledon Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Labour said, 'I support the initiative of local police in checking for knives at Wimbledon station. As a prosecution barrister for the last ten years, I have seen first-hand the terrible effects of knife crime. People who carry knives put themselves and others in danger.'

The Home Secretary welcomed the operation, saying, 'I am determined to stamp out knife crime, wherever it occurs.  By extending the presumption to prosecute people carrying knives, the Met is already taking firm action in London, where knife-enabled crime has dropped by 16% in the last year. But every incident is one too many.'
